Anise is easily the strongest character in Abyss in battle, moreso if you take advantage of the fact that she can learn every Capacity Core skill. Her personal growth comes late, but it's primarily related to her respect for Ion and what he stood for.

I'd hardly call it character growth, though, because it's more the natural result if the developers wanted him to remain in the party at all. Very few games force someone into your party for an entire game, who actively hates his travelling companions. That aside, can you think of anything else? It's hard to say that Jade goes through any worthwhile personality changes, it's just that his motivation for being with the party does.

In particular, I was addressing how Jade is a particularly ruthless and manipulating character who rarely gets called out on his negative traits without it being played up for laughs. He knows far more at any given time than he lets on, and he fully admits at least once or twice in the game that he could reveal some of the more crucial information Luke's origins, various fomicry technobabble, who is a Replica and who isn'tbut he 'hates having to explain things'.
